Κάλαμος
Two coves, two moods, one perfect beach
A rare double beach split by a dramatic rock into two coves — calm "Kali" and wilder "Kakia." Cliff jumping, unspoiled scenery, and remote Aegean atmosphere.
Kalamos is a beach with a split personality, and that is exactly what makes it irresistible. This small coastal settlement is built around a rare geological feature: a massive rock dividing the shoreline into two coves, each with its own character. The locals named them "Kali" (the Good) and "Kakia" (the Bad). Kali, the southern cove, has calm, sheltered waters with a couple of cafe-bars and tavernas. Kakia, the northern cove, earns its nickname from rougher waters and a wilder feel — but for many visitors, this is the more beautiful of the two. Between them, the dividing rock has become a jumping platform for the adventurous. No buses serve Kalamos, preserving its unspoiled character.

Late June through September. "Kali" cove more protected and swimmable even on moderately windy days. Weekdays significantly quieter.
From Chalkida: ~67 km east through inland villages (~1.5 hours). From Athens: just over 2 hours. No bus service — car essential.
For calm swimming head to "Kali" (south). For drama and solitude, choose "Kakia" (north). The dividing rock is popular for cliff jumping — always check depth first. Very limited shade on both beaches — bring an umbrella or prepare for full sun.
