Αγία Παρασκευή
Cyclades colors on Evia's southern shore
A turquoise-water beach with Cycladic-style landscape of dry rock and golden hills. Crystal-clear calm waters, gentle sandy seabed, and colors that rival the Greek islands.
Arriving at Agia Paraskevi near Karystos in south Evia feels like crossing into a different country. Gone are the lush forests. Here the landscape shifts to dry, rocky terrain with golden hillsides and a raw Cycladic energy — as if Andros and Tinos had reached out and claimed this corner of Evia. The beach unfolds like a jewel: turquoise water so vivid it looks filtered, a gently curving shore of small shiny pebbles, and a seabed that deepens gradually over soft sand. The water here rivals anything in the Cyclades. Organized sections offer sunbeds and a beach bar shaded by tamarisk trees. Behind Karystos rises Mount Ochi, topped with mysterious "dragon houses" — megalithic stone structures whose origins remain debated.

June-September. South Evia is slightly warmer and drier, extending the season. Turquoise colors most vivid on calm sunny days.
Fastest: ferry from Rafina to Marmari (~1 hour), then drive to Karystos (~20 min), then west along coast. Or drive from Chalkida south (~130 km, 2-2.5 hours). Ferry saves significant time.
Take the ferry from Rafina rather than driving the full length of Evia from Chalkida — saves significant time and the ferry ride is beautiful. Combine a beach day with evening in Karystos town — waterfront tavernas are excellent. Hike up Mount Ochi for the mysterious "dragon houses" — ancient megalithic structures, about 2 hours each way.
